Carrom: a guide for your next round

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Read the objective before making your first input. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Something to practise

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Notice the feedback after each input.

What you need to achieve

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Making your moves

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. Use the control method described here for this activity. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Notice the change in the playing area.

A useful caution

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Compare the situation with the worked example. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
